All You Need To Know
When is the The Big Rugby Run 2021 taking place?
#TheBigRugbyRun 2021 will take place on May 22nd, organised by the PSA Academies team, with the support of Rugby Players Ireland (RPI), Zurich Ireland and the Z Zurich Foundation, with funds raised going toward initiatives run by Tackle Your Feelings, a mental health and well-being programme run by RPI.
What is the The Big Rugby Run?
Now in its second year, #TheBigRugbyRun aims to connect the grassroots of the Irish rugby community together following an extremely challenging season for clubs and their members. This year’s event format will once more see each registered team committing to running the 42-kilometer distance of a full marathon – all while carrying a rugby ball! This distance can be completed as a relay, by teams of between 2 to 21 members of all ages. The inaugural Big Rugby Run took place on 9 May 2020 across Ireland, when 117 teams, with more than 1.700 runners, covered just under 6,000kms and raised over €60,000 for Feed The Heroes (www.feedtheheroes.com)
Who is behind the The Big Rugby Run?
#TheBigRugbyRun concept and brand is owned by Advanced Sporting Potential Limited (registered in Ireland #575120). We work with Charity and Corporate Partners for the fundraising, sponsorship and activation aspects of the campaign. If you are potentially interested in partnering with #TheBigRugbyRun, please contact info@thebigrugbyrun.com.
How much does The Big Rugby Run hope to raise?
The inaugural Big Rugby Run in Ireland in May 2020 raised over €60,000 for our partner Feed The Heroes. Funds raised by #TheBigRugbyRun 2021 will go towards training up and fully equipping each represented club with a dedicated Tackle Your Feelings ambassador – a person that anyone in the club can go to for advice, support and help. Specific Tackle Your Feelings programmes will be rolled out by RPI with each club to ensure volunteers, coaches, and teammates are equipped to help support anyone who is facing a challenging situation, while working towards building and maintaining an environment that encourages and supports positive mental well-being.
So how can my team get involved in The Big Rugby Run?
It’s easy – #RunTogetherStayApart. As a team of anything from 2 to 21 participants, the challenge is to run the equivalent of a full (42.2km/26 miles) marathon distance as a relay, with each participant ideally dressed in your team kit, carrying a rugby ball every step of the way. You can have your team made up of players, coaches, referees, parents or supporters. On the day, run your leg & tag your teammate/team/club or school plus use the hashtags #thebigrugbyrugby #tackleyourfeelings and #takecontrol on social media to pass your rugby ball as a virtual relay baton!
